How to dispose of garbage in korea

The garbage is classified into three catagories in South Korea.

General waste, food waste, reusable waste, and large waste matters(such as furniture).

It means you shoud separate from those wastes before throw it out.
 

And you should buy plastic garbage bags to dispose of general waste and food waste. You can easily purchase it at supermarkets or convenience stores.

 

The garbage disposal bags are different by district and its price is also different. 

 

Anyway...

If you buy the plastic bag, fill the garbage bag with a declared amount and tie the bag twice in the shape of a cross.

After that, put out the waste bag on collection days in designated area.

But large waste matters like furniture, electric home appliances, bedding, office machines, airconditioners, etc. are disposed differently. Each district office(dong office or community center) is in charge of that and charges varying fees for it. 

 

< Note> Penalty for violations     Penalties ranging from 25,000 won up to 50,000 won will be levied against    an illegal disposal. If food waste is not separated from general waste,    penalty rates for illegal disposal will grow progressively higher.
